日の丸

Sentences from The Tanaka Corpus:
メンツ丸つぶれだ。 I have lost face completely.

日の丸がはためいていた。 Japanese flags were flying.

Kids are such wonderful things. The way and speed they pick up languages just astonishes me. Sometimes when something goes wrong and I drop a typewriter on my toe I mutter しまった under my breath. Much to my surprise my child had dropped a toy and looked down at it and heard her mutter that same phrase. At least most people will just look at her quizzically over here in the states. Kids are so neat.
