Looking up the weather in Japan brought me to an interesting point today. Japan runs from roughly 30 degrees north to roughly 45 degrees north.  Looking at the US that's from about the top of Florida to the top of New York. Giving that I am from Michigan, looks like I would prefer the more northern reaches of Japan.

どうぞお体を大切に。 Please take good care of yourself.
どこかで切らなくては。 We have to draw a line somewhere.
どこで切手を手に入れられますか。 Where can I get stamps?

So I went looking up kites today and ended up looking at paper.

The type of paper I'm talking about is washi (和紙). Now what spurred me to really think about this was the fact that originaly this paper was made in winter. The process needed to be done then so as to have the coldest water to stop bacteria from eating the paper. Talk about cold work.

The other interesting part of this paper was just the sheer amount of uses it is, well, used for. Toys, calligraphy, unbrellas and even bento boxes! Cool stuff!

Well with me being a geek and liking RPGs, it only took me a ton of posts to go around looking for a combination of Japanese and RPGs. I'm not talkin' about the computer/console games (which are really fun mind you). What I'm more refering to is the pen and paper variaty. I stumbled apon a list of these games here.

The one that looked interesting (mainly because someone on wikipedia so graciously noted it as the most popular) was Sword World. Pretty graphics and pictures of people playing are always fun to root through.

What else got me thinking is that this would be a fun way to combine fun and learning. Japananese language classes use a lot of conversation between people. Well what better way to do that then be playing this and trying to do as much of the conversations in Japanese! How cool would that be?
